When do we use crowns?

We not only use crowns to replace missing or badly damaged teeth, they also come with a wide variety of other benefits as well.

BADLY DAMAGED TEETH

In some cases, tooth fillings do not provide a sufficient result and this often leads to extraction surgeries. However, with the use of crowns this can all be avoided and even severely decayed teeth can be saved.

BROKEN TOOTH

The breakage of tooth can be caused by many different effects, such as lifestyle, accidents, even root canal treatments. In this case a dental crown usually provides the finest result

AESTHETIC PROBLEMS

The discolouration of teeth is an often occurring problem and in many cases teeth whitening or veneers do not provide the desired results. If braces are not an option for you, we can easily correct gaps and smaller imperfections with dental crowns as well.

Zirconium or metal crown?

The two most used crown-making materials used by dentists are metal (porcelain fused) and zirconium-dioxide. While the making of a zirconium crown takes a bit longer time than a metal crown, it might be a better choice from a few aspects.

  • Perfect choice for patients dealing with some form of metal allergy, zirconium-dioxide is completely hypoallergenic.
  • Excellent long-term choice, it does not form a metal-coloured line underneath or next to the gum, leaving you with beautiful aestethics, even on the long run.
  • Zirconium crowns look remarkably natural, making it almost impossible to tell the difference between your own teeth and zirconium restorations.

The main steps of crown-making

Consultation and treatment plan

Like in any dental process, a detailed consultation and treatment plan is probably the most essential step.

Preparation and taking the impression

First step in the actual process is preparation. The way of how a tooth is prepared mostly depends on the problem that we are aiming to fix. This is usually followed by some healing time, when the patient normally receives a temporary crown for the purpose of proper eating and chewing. Lastly, a dental impression is made and sent to the dental technician.

Construction and insertion of the final crown

Our dental technician constructs the final crown, corresponding to the impression, which is then placed on the prepared tooth with a special technique. Sometimes this is followed by smaller corrections, e.g. polishing, to achieve the perfect fit, comfort and natural look.

the staff at Dr. Leibovitz is wonderful. Now I can come back to all my favorite sports activities and drag my husband to whatever jogging marathons are available locally.
